  • In this bachelor thesis greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e) of the faculty of civil engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz will be accounted for the academic year of 2014/2015. The basic method used is the standard of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol: A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. Accounted emissions are from the production of heat and the generation of electricity as well as emissions from the carpool. A survey is used to determine emissions from faculty members. These include commuting emissions, emissions from the consumption of paper and emissions for the production of meals at the canteen. The biggest emission sources will be identified and possible reduction potentials will be derived from the balance and from the comparison with other universities. Emissions at the faculty of civil engineering accumulate to 246.8 metric tons of CO2-equivalents in the academic year of 2014/2015. 120.6 tons CO2e come from the commuting of students, employees, and professors. The production of 238.1 MWh of heat results in 51.4 tons CO2e. The generation of 80.5 MWh of electricity produces 11.8 tons CO2e. The second biggest part of the yearly CO2e-emissions emerge in the production of meals for faculty members with 76.1 CO2e. The carpool makes up to 3.5 t CO2e of greenhouse gas emissions and the smallest part is being produced by the consumption of paper with 1.4 t CO2e. It is suggested to undertake actions for reducing the greenhouse gas emissions in the single activities balanced. The motivation for reducing the carbon footprint of the faculty can be increased through an environmental strategy at the university, through cost savings and through an improvement of the public image of the university. The accounting of greenhouse gases quantifies the global warming potential of the faculty of civil engineering. The findings can be used as a basis for further research of reduction potentials.
